This ocean ridge diorama incorporates violet, aqua, blue, ruby and jade murrini canes individually torched into the design.

The design replicates giant tubeworms and other creatures that live near hydrothermal vents 1.5 miles beneath the oceans surface.

These animals thrive at enormous pressures and temperatures that reach 750 degrees. This is nearly the same temperature as the molten glass we use to create these designs.

Deep sea organisms lack sunlight for photosynthesis, so they depend on chemosynthetic bacteria for food.

Hydrothermal vents emit superheated water rich in dissolved minerals which support large populations of bacteria.

The bacteria use these minerals to produce organic material that fuels a food chain which includes snails, shrimp, crabs, fish, octopus and others.
