This sculpture combines cobalt and silver hot shop fuming with the precision of cold shop finishing techniques.
A gather of molten glass is pulled from the crucible and fumed with a proprietary technique that produces a flawless blue veil.
The process is repeated as many times as needed to produce a flame of the desired proportions.
The blue veils are cased in a final gather of crystal clear glass which then receives a silver mirror finish before annealing for 48 hours.
After removing from the annealing kiln the design looks like a silver mirror egg.
An enormous amount of material is removed from the front back and top by cutting, grinding and polishing to reveal the torch flame that resides within the design.
The finished piece is an artistic interpretation of a welders oxygen acetylene torch.
