Roman Cobalt Amphora Late 1st Century AD

In the last century BC ancient Romans began blowing glass inside molds.

This technology increased the variety of shapes, surface detail and precision in hollow glassware production.

Underlying this experimentation with molds were the artists attempts to copy mold-cast pottery techniques.

The Mold Blowing innovation has been traced to the provinces of either Judaea and/or Syria.
