Aubergine Free Blown Vase 2nd-3rd Century AD

The greatest technical achievement of glass making was glass blowing.

The technique was probably developed in Palestine, since the earliest blown glass has been found in Jerusalem.

Before glass blowing, only the very wealthy could afford it.

With the advent of glass blowing, large numbers of cheaply made vessels became possible.

Glass making techniques quickly spread to other parts of the Roman Empire and flourished until 400 AD.

From that point on, the Roman output of glass was never again matched until the modern Industrial Revolution.
