The white used in this design creates the contrast required to produce a three dimensional image in the body of the vase.

By feathering the white upwards the image of a burning flame is produced.

The lavender in the design complements the cherry while also adding depth to the image by contrasting the darker shade with the bright cherry.

This is the same color produced when copper sulfate is added to fireworks displays.

The name Sakura is Japanese for Cherry Blossom.

Japanese celebrate the beauty of the Sakura at parks, shrines and temples during flower-viewing parties. The custom dates back to the early 3rd Century CE.

In 1912 Japan made a gift to the United States of 3,020 cherry blossom trees which were planted in Sakura Park, Manhattan.

The gift was renewed in 1965 with 3,800 more trees. Collections now number in the tens of thousands.
