Our original Phoenix design was a lead crystal vase that had to be retired for environmental reasons.
The studio was commissioned to do a custom design that matched the corporate graphics of a company in Chicago: see item #1930
The work resulted in the new Phoenix design seen here.
The phoenix is an ancient mythical firebird that can be found in the mythologies of the Arabian, Persian, Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Chinese, Indian and Phoenician cultures.
It is said to gold, scarlet, purple, blue, even green plumage according to some legends and has a 500 to 1000 year life-cycle.
Near the end of each cycle it builds a nest of twigs that ignites and burns fiercely, reducing both to ashes.
It is from these ashes that a new phoenix or egg arises to live again.
