These hordes of land plants pumped out oxygen as a waste product which accumulated in the atmosphere.
When oxygen in the free atmosphere rose above 13% wildfires began to occur which were first recorded 420 million years ago.
Evidence of cooked food is found as far back as 1.9 million years ago, although fire was probably not used in a controlled fashion until 1 million years ago.
Today fire runs our vehicles and generates our electricity.
Without it modern civilization would simply not exist.
